How do I know if the injury requires stitches?
When in doubt, check it out. Bleeding does not indicate weather stitches are required or not. Many injuries that require stitches don’t bleed much. Injuries that look small can also be much deeper than you realize. It’s always best to get a professional medical opinion as soon as possible.
-
Will I be under general anesthesia?
No. All procedures are done in the office using local anesthesia.
-
Can I take a shower after getting stitches?
In most cases, we ask that you keep the wound area dry for the first 24 hours. After that, you can take quick showers until the sutures are removed.
-
Can I go swimming?
No. Please refrain from swimming or sprinkler play until after the sutures are removed.
-
If I get stitches in my mouth, can I eat afterwards?
Please avoid chewing for 3 hours after the procedure. You should also avoid salty, spicy, and acidic food for 3-4 days after, as well as abrasive foods like chips. It’s a good idea to rinse with water after meals.
-
How long will I need to wear steri-strips after the stitches are removed?
You will need to wear steri-strips (thin adhesive bandages) until the area is no longer pink, which usually takes around 2-6 months. You will need to replace your steri-strip whenever they fall off or become very dirty.
-
Will I be left with a scar?
While we can’t guarantee no scarring whatsoever, the goal of plastic surgery is to minimize it as much as possible. Our dedicated team has extensive expertise in achieving highly satisfactory outcomes that closely align with your aesthetic goals.
